A Local 'Madrileño' Guide

Explore Medieval Madrid Through Architecture & Stories

On this gentle walk through the old town, you’ll spend a few hours with our expert local guide and quickly learn Madrid is just a small town within a big city. Madrid can almost seem daunting or overwhelming at first glance but we’ll break it down into small, interestingly digestible chunks. We’ll walk through the historical center of the city from Plaza Mayor all the way down to the renovated Manzanares riverside explaining how a small medieval town could eventually become the headquarters of the Spanish Empire.

What You’ll See & Do

It is easy to get lost in cities you don’t know, but it can be equally delightful. This is the case in Madrid. On our Madrid walking tours, we’ll try to keep within the boundaries of the old medieval walls: they will be our geographical guidelines.

Remains of the walls tend to appear unexpectedly, as if by chance. Throughout our time together, we’ll trace them below the modern surface of later urban additions. We’ll wander through a Toledo-style neighborhood while monuments suddenly pop up before the eyes. Churches, palaces, alleyways, cobbled little streets, hidden orchards; they all keep the secrets of the Golden Age, and the air here is filled with the echoes and scents of a distant past.

In addition to this, Sean will try his best to take you off the beaten track and show you downtown Madrid’s best highlights. Traditional (and not so) shopping, interesting public sights, and unmissable food and drink tips!

Good to know: This Madrid city tour is carried out on foot. Keep an eye on weather conditions and other circumstances that may affect the itinerary. The tour is drawn in such a way that alternatives to the original route can be easily found.
